Chapter 64 - Connor’s Point of View

Connor’s heart had sank the moment he felt her body tense beneath him. He hadn’t meant to go this far, but the overwhelming desire he felt for Wren had clouded his judgment. As his finger slid inside her, he immediately knew he’d made a mistake.

“Damn, why did I do that?” Connor berated himself silently. “I lost myself in her body and wasn’t thinking of her. She’s going to hate me now.”

Wren’s reaction was swift and intense. The second she felt him inside her, the past came crashing back, memories she’d fought so hard to keep buried. Trevor’s cruel laughter echoed in her mind as she relived the nightmare of him forcing himself on her, his hands invading her body while she was helplessly bound.

When Connor looked up, the sight that met him shattered his heart. Tears streamed silently down Wren’s cheeks, her face contorted with a pain that had nothing to do with him but everything to do with the memories he’d inadvertently stirred.

Without hesitation, Connor pulled away, guilt gnawing at his insides. He quickly grabbed a blanket and draped it over her trembling form, then lay down beside her, gently pulling her into his arms. He held her close, his fingers threading through her hair, stroking it softly, while his other hand rubbed soothing circles on her back.

“I’m so sorry,” Connor whispered, his voice thick with regret. “I shouldn’t have pushed you so far.”

Wren’s tears continued to fall, her sobs muffled against his bare chest. “I know you didn’t mean to hurt me,” she choked out, her voice fragile. “I’m not upset because of you.”

Connor’s brow furrowed in confusion. “Then why?”

Wren’s breath hitched as she tried to find the words. “I hate that I’m still being tortured by that jerk. The memories of him and what he did just won’t leave.”

Connor’s grip tightened protectively around her. “Maybe if you talk about it, you’ll feel better. I’m always here to listen.”

“Maybe,” Wren murmured, her voice uncertain.

Connor pressed a soft kiss to her forehead, his heart aching for her. “What did you think about that made you so scared?”

Wren hesitated, but the sincerity in Connor’s eyes encouraged her to continue. “Are you sure you want to hear this?”

“Yes,” Connor said firmly. “I want you to get better.”

Wren took a deep breath, the memories swirling in her mind like a dark storm. “The image of him shoving his fingers in me while standing over me laughing as I was tied up flashed into my mind to haunt me.”

The rage that surged through Connor was almost unbearable. The image her words conjured made his blood boil, his fists clenching in anger. “If I ever see that asshole again,” he thought fiercely, “I’ll kill him with my own bare hands. Just what all did she go through from that bastard?”

He pushed his anger aside for her sake and hugged her tighter, gently wiping the tears from her cheeks. “Sunshine,” he whispered, “I know it was hard for you, but you have to keep telling yourself that it’s over. He can’t hurt you anymore.”

Wren nodded, though her expression remained conflicted. “I know that in my mind, but it’s like my body doesn’t listen. The slightest touch and it just rushes all back at me.”

Connor’s heart broke for her. “Can you try and tell yourself that it’s me and not him? You know I won’t hurt you.”

“I know, and I did, but I think it was just too much for one day.” Wren’s voice wavered, her emotions raw and exposed.

Connor’s guilt deepened, his regret evident as he spoke. “I’m so sorry. It was all my fault. You tasted so sweet, and I lost my control.”

Wren noticed the sadness in his eyes, the way he hung his head in shame. She could see how much he was blaming himself for what had happened, and it pained her to see him this way.

“Don’t blame yourself,” Wren said softly, reaching out to cup his face in her hands. She gently made him look at her, her touch tender. “I know you weren’t trying to hurt me.”

Connor’s eyes searched hers, filled with remorse. “I should have known better and taken it slower.”

Wren offered him a small, reassuring smile. “Hey, look at me.” She waited until his gaze met hers fully. “I still love you, and thank you for being this patient and understanding.”

Connor’s eyes softened, his love for her evident. “I can do better.”

“You’re doing fine,” Wren assured him, her thumbs brushing lightly against his cheeks. “It’s me who needs to do better.”

Connor shook his head, his heart aching at her words. “I love you, Sunshine. You are perfect.”

Wren smiled sadly, her voice barely above a whisper. “I’m far from perfect, but I think I might have an idea.”
